Metro Phoenix Chapter: FBI Updates on Jewelry and Cyber Crime
Tuesday, May 7, 2019
6:30 p.m.
Phoenix, AZ
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is involved in jewelry and gem thefts as thieves cross state and even national boundaries. As a result, the bureau created a Jewelry & Gem Theft program in 1992 to oversee the investigations of these highly mobile jewelry thieves, who often are involved in other kinds of organized crime activities already under scrutiny by the FBI.
Supervisory Special Agent Nick Zarro, who has been with the FBI for seven years and previously served with the Phoenix Police Department, is the program manager for the Major Theft Unit of the FBI in the Washington, D.C. office. He will provide an overview of his unit’s work to thwart the most egregious major theft activity, including specifically art, cargo, jewelry and gems, retail and vehicles.
Cyber-crimes is the fastest-growing threat, and Special Agent Brad Thurman, a Business Email Compromise (BEC) subject matter expert from the FBI Phoenix field office, will speak on online crime and provide measures attendees can incorporate to better protect their businesses. You don’t want to miss this one!
This event is co-hosted with the Arizona Guild of AGS.
