Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a GIA lab class and the Student Workroom?

Many GIA online education credential programs require lab classes. Lab classes are taught by GIA instructors and cover diamond grading, colored stone evaluation, gem and pearl identification, and other real-world jewelry skills in 5 days (or 10 nights) or less.

GIA Student Workrooms give you access to all the equipment and gemstones needed to complete the practical requirements of your Gem Identification course. This self-study room is also available if you are preparing for your 20-stone Gem Identification final exam, taking a supervised exam or practicing on equipment and gemstones. GIA Student Workrooms are available at GIA campuses worldwide. Student workrooms are available by appointment during specified sessions.
