GIA EXHIBITS
The Hauser Exhibit at TGMS
GIA presents a collection of Joel F. Hauser’s exceptional specimens, including agates, geodes and petrified wood. Hauser searched the southern California and Arizona deserts for over two decades to find these specimens. He was accompanied by his four sons and wife, Barbara, who chronicled their adventures for special interest and hobby magazines. Hauser employed his expert skill and artistic eye as a lapidary artist to contour-polish and reveal amazing patterns, markings and color of many of his specimens. Thanks to the Hauser family, more beautiful specimens have a permanent home at GIA and are on display in Carlsbad, California.
The Fersman Catalog at TGMS
See GIA library’s display on the copy of Russia’s Treasure of Diamonds and Precious Stones by A.E. Fersman, one of the few surviving examples of a Bolshevik-era catalog of royal jewels seized during the Russian Revolution. This special display at TGMS includes a figure of Catherine the Great by George Stuart (on loan from the Ventura County Museum of Art) and replicas of notable diamonds, the Orlov and the Shah.
