Monday, September 12, 2016
6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Denver, CO
Jeffrey Scovil began a life-long passion after he received his first camera from his father when he graduated from high school. Scovil now travels the world taking photos for collectors, museums, dealers and publishers, and speaking to the public about photography, mineralogy and his travel logs. His work has taken him to Brazil, Canada, China, Israel, Madagascar, Morocco, Russia and many countries throughout Europe.
Scovil published his book “Photographing Minerals, Fossils and Lapidary Arts” in 1996. He has also published numerous reports on new mineralogical finds and articles on mineralogy and mineral localities. He has been a member of mineralogical clubs in Connecticut and Arizona, holding various positions, including president and show chairman, and is a member of the Mineralogical Society of America. In recognition of his contributions to mineralogical education and preservation, Scovil received the 2007 Carnegie Mineralogical Award at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
